How much money to show.

A Schengen consulate wants to see that you can pay for the trip you describe. The amount depends on where you go, for how long, and with whom.

Consulates check that you can pay for your stay. The figures here are a reasonable daily amount for each country, based on what a stay there costs, and three things change what you need to show: how long you stay, how many of you travel, and whether your stay is already paid.

Your trip

Choose where you are going to see the amount.

Guidance only. Not financial or legal advice; the consulate decides.

What the consulate looks at

  • A balance that has been steady. Money that arrived the week before reads as borrowed, not saved.
  • Money that matches the trip you describe. A long stay on a short balance raises the question the file should answer.
  • Who is paying, if it is not you. A sponsor's money counts only when the link between you is clear.

Guidance only: a reasonable amount based on what a stay in each country costs. Consulates look at more than the number. We check your figures with you when we prepare your file.

The rest of your file is the part we do with you.
